Welcome! It’s Wednesday morning. Coffee and muesli. Then more coffee and an hour on the internet. Up! Carpe diem! Seize the day.
It’s been a week in and out of Limbo — a/k/a the anteroom of Hell — but thankfully, mostly out of that hopeless cavern while Angels surround me in the form of friends to pull me back towards life.
Should I tell Dr. Whalen about Fenbendazole? The anti-parasitic dog de-wormer hailed as effective against several human cancers? Should he find out I was taking it, would it void my warranty? I mean, would it void my insurance coverage? What if he refuses to treat me?
The answer to that question was going to define my attitude toward my future treatment. Would I divide myself into compartments, one for the official, insurance approved medical system, the other concealed by lies and omissions, where I dabble in risky alternative remedies?
No. One thing I do know: you can’t be two people and be happy. And let’s be frank, whether I live a year or a hundred years, happiness is the goal. Everyone knows that—right? Attitude is everything, they say.

It is certainly an interesting concept to think about from the entire study. However, we have to be careful about drawing results from animal studies that they translate to human application in terms of effectiveness. I personally would not prescribe these as I have no experience with these medications. The medical oncologists may have some more input in this regard. I have asked our prostate cancer navigator to ask about clinical trials available in our practice. If you are interested in clinical trials, I would also be happy to have you seen to Johns Hopkins, Georgetown or the NIH. I don't know which trials they have open, but it is always an option Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Next we met with the Oncologist, Dr. Tiwarri. He is the head of the practice, highly experienced, and well-respected. On the issue of alternative treatments, he said that there were “non-controlled” studies that showed that such alternative treatments did not work in a case as severe as mine. My case, he said, is highly aggressive “Gleason 9” prostate cancer.

I would like to have references to the "non-controlled" studies that dr. Tiwarri referred to as well as any you have knowledge of. If there are such studies that show Gleason 9 cancers are not responsive to any such treatments, I would particularly want to read those. My wife Marcia is working hard to understand the issues as well. She has a deep background in nutrition. I am requesting both you and Dr Tiwarri to put together a list of the resources available on those "alternative" therapies which have been the subjects of "non-controlled" studies relevant to my cancer. thank you very much,
John
Not receiving an answer I decided to start Fenbendazole the next day. A week later, this:

Mr. O'Loughlin, I looked into Fenbendazole. The basic mechanism of action supports anti-cancer efficacy. However, from what I learned, it is currently limited in efficacy in humans by its limited ability to penetrate the cancer cells due to low water solubility, specific pH ranges (the stomach destroys most of it) and poor permeability to penetrate cancer cells. Some groups in Australia appear to be working on a way to deliver it better into cancer cells. I don't have an objection to you taking it. However, as its production is not monitored by the FDA, specific production safety relevant to humans is not assessed and depending who produces it, its dose may or may not be accurate. Human safety data is limited on fenbdenazole. From what I can find, it can cause liver dysfunction, which could affect other prostate cancer medications. I don't have a list of alternative treatments for prostate cancer treatment. We know that diet plays a major role and at the Mediterranean Diet and foods rich in antioxidants provide beneficial effects. I understand your statement regarding side effects of these options especially as it pertains to chemotherapy and other treatment side effects. We know several treatments that are available as treatment options for you and new treatments are always in development. I encourage you to visit clinicaltrials.gov. There are numerous clinical trials that are open that you may find a trial that is interesting to you. If you are interested in clinical trials at major research institutions (Johns Hopkins, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, Duke University), I am happy to try to get you into see them.

My Angels have been busy supplying me with ways to penetrate the cell lining as Dr. Whelan described. I now have “FenBen” in 3 forms and have chosen to take Panaur-C as it is recommended by Joe Tippins, whose amazing story begins here:

In sum, this past week and a half has been scary but exhilarating, depressing and hopeful, and for all of it, I am extremely grateful.

A little bird shared some additional tools to consider. I'll gather some papers on the recommended items for Team OLoughlin.
Hi John. I have a friend who has prostate cancer and has been taking fenben for around 2 years. His wife is his caregiver/researcher/advocate. She follows Joe Tippens protocols as well and he is also receiving traditional medical insurance covered treatment. Let me know if you have any question or I can give your her name to find on Facebook to speak directly to her. All the best in this journey and many prayers. Make sure you join Joes mycancerstoryrocks fb closed group if your haven’t already.
